Postgraduate Admissions Policy

The purpose of Caribbean Nazarene College is to offer education of a holistic nature for  persons who desire to pursue education in a Christian environment.

By signing the application, the student commits herself or himself to abiding by the academic and Christian lifestyle standards of the College upon enrollment.

MASTER OF ARTS IN COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

You must have an undergraduate degree with a GPA of 2.7 and above from an accredited institution. The following are our admission requirements:

  • Application form

  • Two (2) recommendations

  • Medical form

  • Official transcript from undergraduate institution

  • Three counselling sessions with a professional counsellor / therapist

  • An Interview with the Dean of Postgraduate Studies and panel

  • Essay questions – give typed responses of at least one page each (Times New Roman, 12 font, single spaced) to the following questions:

    1. What are some life events which may have influenced your decision to pursue a profession in counselling?

    2. What is your perspective of counselling as a profession?

    3. What is your perspective of counselling in terms of your own spirituality?

    4. How do you hope to use this training?

 

The following pre-requisite courses are needed to commence the Master of Arts in Counselling programme. If you have not done these courses, you are required to complete them.

  • Introduction to Psychology (3 credits)

  • Social Psychology (3 credits)

  • Principles of Counselling (3 credits)

  • Psychological Tests and Measurement (3 credits)

  • Abnormal Psychology (3 credits)

  • Developmental Psychology (3 credits)

MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK REQUIREMENTS

You must have an undergraduate degree with a GPA of 2.7 or above in a field related to Social Work from an accredited institution. The following are our admission requirements:

  • Application form

  • Two (2) recommendations

  • Medical form

  • Official transcript from undergraduate institution

  • Three counselling sessions with a professional counsellor / therapist

  • An Interview with a Social Work faculty member (if necessary)

  • Essay questions – give typed responses of at least one page each (single space) to the following questions:

    1. What are some life events which may have influenced your decision to pursue a profession in social work?

    2. What is your understanding of social work as a profession in the Caribbean?

    3. What is your perspective of social work in terms of your own spirituality?

    4. How do you hope to use this degree?

 

The following pre-requisite courses are needed to commence the Master of Social Work programme. If you have not done these courses, you are required to complete them.

  • Introduction to Politics (3 credits)

  • Introduction to Psychology (3 credits)

  • Introduction to Social Work (3 credits)

  • Introduction to Sociology (3 credits)

  • Introduction to Statistics (3 credits)

  • Anthropology of the Peoples of the Caribbean (3 credits)

 

Once you have been accepted as a Master of Arts or Master of Social Work student you are required to do the following as it pertains to your practicum and dissertation:

  • Individual Psychological Evaluation (16PF test)

  • Ten Counselling Sessions
